Ministry of Human Resources is helpingThe University Grants Commission, UGC has unleashed ten online literacy courses for students and instructors to make the best exercise of their time. The data and Library Network( INFLIBNET) and the Consortium for Educational Communication( CEC), along with other enterprise of MHRD, UGC, and itsInter-University Centers( IUC), have uncorked their online courses. These courses are SWAYAM,e-PG Pathshala, National Digital Library. The digital content of scale andpost-graduation courses is accessible on all these website portals. On this portal, you'll find multiple courses honored by the UGC. 

What is this unit about

This unit is about increasing your routine for using English in the classroom. It focuses on the main language skills of speaking and listening.




Think about all that you and your students say at the beginning and end of a school day and everything in between lessons. All these moments provide regular opportunities to teach and learn the language.You are probably the most important source of English for your students, especially if they are not exposed to English in their homes or communities.You may not feel 100% confident about your English, but English is accepted throughout the world with a wide variety of accents, and varying levels of proficiency.Everyone can learn English through encouragement and practice. The activities, case studies, and resources in this unit can help you to begin developing routines for using English in the classroom.


Activity 1: 'Teacher discussion': planning the activity
Have you seen young children playing 'Teacher Teacher'? Perhaps you also played this game in childhood. Children like to imitate the teacher and can learn the language of 'teacher dialogue', or 'classroom management', although no one really 'teaches' them the words and phrases. So whatever you do in class, your students also performs the same. You can use this knowledge to practice the language, immediately and with variety.


Are there more English words or sentences that you are already using, but they are not on this list?Now select sentences from this list that you have not used before. Practice these sentences aloud at home or with a fellow teacher. See if you can speak the sentences differently or better.Using gestures will help students understand your point. How do you express sentences like 'Open your books', and 'Come in'? While speaking these sentences, also practice gestures.
