 Pradhan mantri matru vandana yojna

Janani Suraksha Yojana this is a safe motherhood program under the National Health Mission. It aims to promote safe delivery in poor pregnant women.



 The central government provides financial assistance to pregnant women. Only women living below the poverty line can avail this scheme.

Pregnant women have been divided into two categories under Janani Suraksha Yojana by the government.

To avail this scheme, a pregnant woman needs to be admitted to a government hospital or a recognized private hospital for delivery. Funds provided by the government under this scheme are sent directly to the bank account of the beneficiary. Therefore, it is mandatory for pregnant women to have a bank account and should be linked to the bank account base. Let us tell you in detail about Janani Suraksha Yojana.


Two categories of women for Janani Suraksha Yojana


Pregnant women in rural areas

Under Janani Suraksha Yojana, women who are pregnant and living below the poverty line are given financial assistance of Rs 1400 by the government. In addition, Asha Sahyogini is given Rs 300 for incentive delivery and Rs 300 for providing post-natal service.

Pregnant women in urban areas

Under this scheme, poor pregnant women in urban areas are given financial assistance of Rs 1000 at the time of delivery. In addition, Asha Sahaji is provided Rs 200 for incentive delivery and Rs 200 for post-delivery service.

Purpose of Janani Suraksha Yojana

Women living below the poverty line cannot meet their health needs during pregnancy. The availability of medical facilities in rural areas is still very difficult. In view of all these difficulties, the Central Government has started this scheme. Through this scheme, the government wants to reduce maternal mortality as well as neonatal mortality. It also allows safe delivery to poor women in the hospital so that mothers and newborns can avoid emergency situations.

Features of a Public Safety Plan

The scheme is a 100 percent centrally sponsored scheme and integrates cash assistance. The scheme has identified ASHA workers as social health workers. Pregnant women giving birth at home with the help of Anganwadi doctors or ASHA workers will get Rs 500. Up to five years after the free delivery of the infant, the mother and child are informed about the vaccination and vaccinated. All the women who are registered under this scheme are given at least two antenatal checkups free of cost. Apart from this, Asha and Anganwadi workers also help them in the postpartum period.

Eligibility for public safety scheme

Under this scheme, pregnant women from both rural and urban areas of the country can register. The government provides financial assistance to pregnant women under this scheme when they are 19 years of age or older. Women registered under the scheme have to be transported only to a government hospital or a private hospital selected by the government. The government will provide medical and other financial facilities to pregnant women for the birth of only two children. Only women below poverty line will be benefitted under this scheme.

Applicant's Aadhar card, BPL ration card, proof of residence, address proof, Janani Suraksha card, hospital-issued delivery certificate, bank account passbook, mobile number and passport size photo.
