India eats only salt from Gujarat, although salt for fasting is imported from Pakistan, see statistics
Gujarat is the largest producer of salt in India, but India has to depend on Pakistan for Sindha salt i.e. Farali salt. Because Sindhaloon is produced the most in Pakistan. In 2018-2019, more than 99% of the Sindh salt imported by India came from Pakistan.

India ranks third in salt production
Let us tell you that India is the third largest producer of salt after China and America. According to statistics, the highest production of salt in the country is in Gujarat. In 2021-2022, more than 266 lakh tonnes of salt was produced in the country, out of which 227.65 lakh tonnes i.e. 85% of salt was produced in Gujarat. Tamil Nadu (17.27 lakh tonnes) and Rajasthan (16.90 lakh tonnes) produced the highest salt after Gujarat.
India is dependent on Pakistan for salt
India is the third largest producer of salt, exporting 66 lakh tonnes of salt worth around Rs 870 crore in 2020-21. India's salt is also eaten by countries like China, South Korea, Japan, Indonesia, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Taiwan. But we are dependent on Pakistan for imported salt.
Farali salt is not produced in India, while Pakistan is far ahead in making farali salt. There is a salt mine called Khewda in the Punjab province of Pakistan. More than 4 lakh tons of salt is produced here every year. According to the report of the Indian Bureau of Mines, India imported 74,457 tonnes of Sindh loon in 2018-19. Out of which 74,413 tonnes or more than 99% of the salt came from Pakistan.
